French Polynesia Residents Are Facing Effects From Decades Of Nuclear Testing?

I was hearing about the nuclear testing that was going on in French Polynesia a while back, and it caught my attention on was going on a few years back on that issue. Now the thing is, after all of this nuclear testing that has went on it bring up a definate question to that. What was the side effects that was laid upon the residents there?  Well for French Polynesians, it really haven’t been that many studies done or researching.

But the was an interesting statement by a researcher from the French Government medical institute, which states explicitly the link between radiation exposure and the high rates of thyroid cancer in French Polynesia. French Polynesia has had 2 to 3 times the cancer rate then compared to population areas like in the Pacific, and much higher than France itself. So for the first time this was mentioned, a official French Government statement has drawn the link between nuclear testing and the thyroid cancer rates.

And basically this all comes off from over 30 years of nuclear testing and over years has spawned heavy concerns from residents. And the French Government stated during the 70’s and 90’s when heavy testing was being done, that there were not any dangers. But there was still deep concerns, like a study that was done in 1998 by the International Atomic Energy Agency. They found 5 kilos of plutonium in the settlements of the lagoon of Muruora Atoll. And which that much plutonium, it could cause serious environment mental impacts from that type of exposure to radiation.

The issue that was raised is that, are there documents to prove all of this. As french democracy dictates, not to allow independent study to be done openly. But this is like public scrutiny then, this should not be kept secret especially when it comes to innocent lives that is caught in between. But there are legal avenues. But in the french legislation all legal resources needs to be used in France itself, before going to with this matter to a international level. So the legislation in France is challenging for anyone to get documents to be released, especially on a topic matter dealing with nuclear test, side effects of nuclear testing that plagues  Polynesian citizens and documented research.

It’s also focuses on the fact that the French Government had decided at some stage that the documented evidence should be kept under wraps for 30 years. And now they want to do the same thing again pushing it further for another 30 years, because by then whoever was a victim of these tests are more in likely to be deceased by then (meaning there is no one to talk about it publicly).  This is just sad, how people get caught in the middle on a situation like this.

Especially dealing with something like nuclear testing being done in their on back yard where they live, and they seem powerless to stop it because of negligence of a proud government that does not seem to give a dam of what makes it possible to have a thriving nation or country “IT’S PEOPLE”. Till then: My Motto: Stay clam, cool, collective, knowing that the only thing that keeps you form making a difference is yourself strive for the best!
