Race Car Loses Control Kills Two

Pic-03182013-004Over this past weekend at a race car track, a race car lost control and slammed into the race track pit killing two people as a result. The crash happen doing a routine warm-up just before the event was to take place at the Marysville Raceway Park track.

The victims of the incident, a 14-year-old boy and a 68-year-old man, were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The driver was a 17-year-old boy, was not injured in the crash.

The man was pronounced dead at the race track, and the boy was pronounced dead at a hospital out in Sacramento, Calif.

The race cars was running their laps of what’s called “hot laps.” driving around the track itself at 90 miles an hour.

At one point one of the cars couldn’t make the turn, and lost control veering off into the pit stop area.

The highway patrol & the Yuba County Sheriff’s Dept. have already started to conduct an investigation of the crash scene. And the autopsies will follow next of the victims.


The 14 year-old was helping out in the pit, when the race car flew off the track and went over 100 feet through the air and hit the boy who was working in the pit at the time.

The boy’s father released a statement saying:

“Our family has suffered an unspeakable tragedy with the passing of our precious Marcus Johnson & Dale Wondergem. There no words to express are sorrow. Our family has been racing for four generations and loves the sport that has now brought us so much pain.”

“Everybody’s hurting. There’s nothing we can do. this is terrible, he had so much to look forward to.” Don Johnson the boy’s father said.

The race car itself was checked after the crash to see if there was any type of mechanical problems, that could have been a factor prohibiting the driver to be able to stop the vehicle.

The driver Chase Johnson had two years of driving experience in the sport, and almost ready to drive on the NASCAR circuit.

Johnson had started out at 15 years-old participating in race car driving.

After the crash had taken place, a message was broadcasted over the race track’s phone line, saying that the racing event had been cancelled.

The last race car track incident that happened on the Daytona International Speedway injured at least 30 people on February 23, victims were bombered with chunks of large debris and a projectile tire after a car had rammed into the fencing that is designed to protect onlookers of the race..
